I think it's useful to publish a migration guide before hand because it will for sure contain hints how you can already now prepare for the migration to 5.0 while still on 4.x. Moreover, we might decide to release preview milestones of 5.0.

But be should add a disclaimer what the guide is about and which steps you can follow already right now.

Or we play it safer and create a java-5.0 branch and review our migration-guide PRs against the java-5.0 branch.
